Up very early today for our trip to Lyon on the TGV. We caught the 6:30AM train non stop to Lyon. Left Paris Gare de Lyon in darkness and arrived in Lyon in the fog...train still bang on time..say what you will about the French they are way ahead of the transportation curve and use of electric buses etc. They are onto the "Green thing" and can afford all the electrical useage for transportation ..the French carbon footprint is small compared to other major countries because over 80 percent of their electrical needs are nuclear generated. The weather was tremendous all day - clear blue skies - who wants to go to Europe in the summer when you can go in the winter and have the place to yourself....We strolled along both the rivers (Saone and Rhone) and found some hidden traboules in Vieux Lyon. Visited the roman amphitheaters and then had lunch at Petite Lyon. After arrival we enjoyed an "Aperitif Maison" a cremant de Bourgogne avec creme de cassis et mure then we shared two dishes one Creme de champignons, croutons et creme fouette and a Terrine de campagne maison, compote d'oignons and mesclun. Then again we shared another two dishes one Cuisse de canard braisee, pomme de terre ecraseeanjus reduit and a Dos de cabillaud roti, mousdeline de brocoli, creme au jus des moules and then for dessert we shared two creme brulee's a la cassonade's and a Chausson feuillete aux poires, coulis de fruits rouges and then two cups of coffee...I took a picture of the menu. Then we strolled through the main part of Lyon until out train departure back to Paris.
After getting back to San Germain we decided to have a quick dinner at the Mazerine Bistro a block away from the apartment...Oysters, herring, Onion soup and red wine...tasty stuff...now we are beat and ready for the Eurostar to London tomorrow.

So you are staying in St Germain. We all know about the local football team, but also, Field Marshal von Runstedt had his HQ there in 1944.
